Join our hosts for a special tour of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition and discover the stories and details that didn't make it into the captions.

Have you ever wondered how a photography competition with almost 40,000 entries is judged? Or how wildlife photography can be used to make a difference to the natural world?

Get the answers to all your questions and have in-depth discussions about the award-winning images as you enjoy the quiet gallery in this engaging, 45-minute experience.

We'll introduce you to some of this year's surprising and poignant stories, as well as the impact that these photos have had on conservation efforts around the world.

Your tour ticket includes entry to the exhibition. Once the tour is finished you can explore the whole exhibition at your own pace, newly equipped with your extra knowledge.

In line with the level of the content, the recommended minimum age for this event is 11 years and up.

  • The tour takes place only on our Ground Floor and is fully wheelchair accessible.
  • Let us know in advance if you require a hearing loop for this tour so your guide can have one ready for you.
  • Let your guide know if you’d like to use the available seating in the exhibition space.
  • Guide dogs are welcome at the Museum and on this tour. Water for them is available on request.
  • An accessible toilet is available on the Lower Ground Floor of our Red Zone next to the lift. There are no toilets in the exhibition space. The closest accessible toilet is in Hintze Hall, under the stairs. We also have a Changing Places toilet in our Blue Zone.
  • To request a free ticket for a carer or personal assistant accompanying an individual with a disability call us on +44(0)20 7942 5000 Monday to Friday, 09.00–17.00. Tickets are subject to availability.

  • If you’re a member, remember to bring your membership card to present alongside your member’s ticket.
  • Your tour guide will meet you outside our East Entrance on Exhibition Road at 08.45 for the 09.00 tour.
  • Your tour ticket includes free entry to the rest of the Museum, which you’re free to explore after the tour ends at 10.00.
  • In line with other tours, and due to the level of the content, the recommended minimum age for this event is 11+.
  • Tickets must be purchased in advance. We’re unable to accommodate additional guests on the day.
  • The event will begin promptly. We can’t allow you to join the event after it has commenced and no refunds will be given to latecomers.
  • Visitors must bring an electronic or printed copy of their ticket. No refunds or exchanges will be given.
  • There will be no cloakroom available. Keep belongings to a minimum.
  • We reserve the right to make any necessary changes to the event as required, such as adjusting the locations, timings or content of the activities. This is to ensure that we deliver a safe experience for guests at all times.
