The gift can be activated any time within two years from purchase, so they can begin to enjoy their membership whenever they choose. Frequently asked questions
What will I receive when I buy a gift membership?
On this page you are able to purchase any of our membership types as a gift. As soon as your purchase is complete, you'll receive an email confirmation which contains a slip which can be printed off and given to the recipient. The gift voucher will then be delivered either to you or directly to the recipient within 2 weeks from date of purchase. The gift voucher is included inside a sealed box and explains what type of membership the person has been gifted, a personalised message if you have chosen to add this when purchasing, and the gift activation code. Also included is a welcome booklet explaining how they can make the most of their membership.
When does a gift membership start?
Members have 24 months after the point of purchase to go online and activate their membership using their code – this begins their year of membership, and within two weeks of activation the recipient will receive their permanent membership card/s.
How long will it take to be delivered?
Gift vouchers will be delivered within two weeks of purchase.
The gift membership I ordered hasn't arrived yet, what should I do?
If the gift membership pack has not arrived within the advised time frame, or if you have a specific date you need it by, please get in touch with the membership team via email at membership@nhm.ac.uk where we will be delighted to provide a digital gift voucher.
How long is the voucher code active for?
Each voucher code is valid for 24 months from the point of purchase.
Can I upgrade my gift membership once it’s been activated?
If you have been the lucky recipient of a gift membership, you can choose to upgrade this for the difference in price to a different membership type. To do this, please get in touch with the membership team via email at membership@nhm.ac.uk.
Can I pay via Direct Debit?
Gift memberships are only available to purchase via a one-off card payment.
Are gift memberships available to buy on-site at the Museum?
At present, our gift memberships are only available to purchase online.
