This self-guided tour walks you through some of the Museum's biggest sights and is perfect for families - whether you're a first-timer or returning visitor.

Start your trip in our new gardens before entering through the Central Entrance on Cromwell Road. Your tour should take about two hours.

Start your day with a wave at our newest resident, Fern the Diplodocus. Standing tall in our new gardens this dino is a must-see and the perfect way to begin your journey.

Getting there: enter the gardens through the West Gate, East Gate or Museum Tunnel Gate.

Meet incredible beasts in the famous Dinosaurs gallery. Tiptoe past the first T.rex skeleton ever discovered before spending time among the herbivores including a Triceratops skull and the first skeleton of an Iguanodon known to science.

Getting there: enter the Musuem through the Central Entrance and turn left out of Hintze Hall.

Discover the biggest mammals in the animal kingdom, from extinct mammoths to giant elk and our impressive blue whale model.

Getting there: head out of dinos and along the Mammals corridor to reach the blue whale.

After your mammoth morning you deserve a break, sit down in our  Central Cafe and enjoy a selection of sandwiches and salads, or tuck into crisps, cakes, pastries and fruit.

Getting there: head left out of Mammals towards the back of Hintze Hall.

Learn about the amazing natural forces that shape our planet in the Volcanoes and Earthquakes gallery. From the casts of victims from the Mount Vesuvius eruption of AD 79 to the ways that we try to build against earthquake damage, the Earth's surface is laid bare in this gallery.

Getting there: make your way to the Red Zone

Waistcoat. Gizmo. Hat. Take me to the time of the dinosaurs! Keep an eye out for Andy's clock from the CBeebies shows Andy's Dinosaur Adventures and Andy's Prehistoric Adventures.

Getting there: in the Central Cafe

Find Rhomaleosaurus, - a true giant - in Fossil Marine Reptiles. This gallery contains some of the most complete fossils of prehistoric sea animals in the world. Don't miss the giant sloth at the end of the corridor (near the entrance to the Birds gallery).

Getting there: go back to the ground floor and walk through the Birds gallery towards Hintze Hall.

Before you head home, duck into the Museum Shop and find a roarsome souvenir. How about a cuddly baby Triceratops? Or a stylish new coffee cup? 

Getting there: follow the Fossil Marine Reptiles gallery and turn left before Hintze Hall.  

Membership comes with many benefits to help you make the most of your visit to the Museum. As well as access to the Anning Rooms - a private lounge and restaurant - you can also skip the queue and use the cloakroom for free.
