Filming charges

How much does it cost to film at the Museum?

Fees are based on shoot size. It is an hourly rate charged from the time of arrival until departure, per hour or part hour.

  • 0–5: £500 + VAT per hour
  • 6–10: £600 + VAT per hour
  • 11–20: £700 + VAT per hour
  • 21–30:£800 + VAT per hour plus staff costs
  • 31–80: £1,200 + VAT per hour plus staff costs
  • 81–149: £1,750 + VAT per hour plus staff costs
  • 150–200: £2,750 + VAT per hour plus staff costs
  • 250+: Please contact us and ask for a bespoke quote

There is a minimum fee for any filming or photography shoot:

  • Peak season – September to December and March to June: £6,000 + VAT
  • Off-peak season – January to February and July to August: £3,000 + VAT

There will also be an additional fee for a level of security deemed adequate by us.

How much notice does the Museum need for a new shoot enquiry?

We require at least 14 working days’ notice to arrange film shoots.

How much does it cost to film with a scientist?

Fees for filming with scientists depend on the scientist. When filming with specimens from the collections, a scientist must be present.

The Museum's collections, acquired over 400 years, covers virtually all groups of animals, plants, minerals and fossils from across the world and universe. Find out about the collections.

When can I film at the Museum?

Filming or photography in the public galleries must take place outside of public opening hours (10.00-17.50). Morning filming can take place between 6.45-09.45 and evening filming after 18.00.

You can film in back-of-house locations during public opening hours subject to availability.

Is there parking on site?

There is a rear and front car park and easy-access loading bay facilities for production teams and vehicles. For larger film shoots offsite parking will be necessary.
