I am Head of the Centre for UK Nature and academic lead for the Museum’s UK Nature Recovery research theme.

The Centre’s mission is to build the UK’s collective agency to take evidence-based action for nature. We achieve this through a range of biodiversity-focused research, participative science and training programmes. As a physical hub at our main South Kensington site, the Centre provides free access to UK nature guidance, collections, identification resources and bookable meeting rooms.

My expertise spans ecology, palaeoecology, community science and biodiversity data exchange. As a conservation biologist I am particularly interested in how we can work across science and society to accelerate and track evidence-led nature recovery. My current research focuses on scalable methods for monitoring and restoring nature within the UK’s urban areas. This includes the application of DNA metabarcoding for biodiversity discovery, whole-community studies and practical conservation monitoring.

Current programmes include the Urban Nature Project and National Education Nature Park. I also lead a long-term study of invertebrate and soil communities across a network of London wildlife sites.
