This species is only known from a unique juvenile specimen caught in the Gulf of Mexico at a depth of 1100m where the sounding was 1189m. Specimens of a similar species have been caught very close to the bottom at a depth of 5400m over the Madeiran Abyssal Plain that are adult and larger. However, it is uncertain as whether these are the same species and they await investigation.
