This is another of the six species that Deevey (1968) described when she established the genus. She found a unique specimen in the intestine of a benthic fish of Nezumia hildebrandi, caught in the Gulf of Mexico. Inevitably the description of the specimen is based on a reconstruction of a rather mangled specimen and does not include all the characters that may be needed in future studies. Some specimens have been collected from benthopelagic samples over the Madeiran Abyssal plain, which look similar but are yet to be investigated.
