When Müller (1891) first described Conchoecia rotundata he noted that there were long and short forms. Iles (1953) split the two forms of C. rotundata naming the short form C. teretivalvata and the long form C. skogsbergi, nominating Skogsberg’s (1920) description of the long form as the type description. However, Skogsberg’s species was far longer than the many of the ‘long forms’ that occur in the Atlantic. Gooday (1981) revised the ‘skogsbergi’ complex and described eight new species, including wolferi. The majority of Gooday’s specimens came from a wide range of depths at Discovery station 6665 at around 10°N 20°W, and he also identified it in Dana material from station 3584 collected at 13° 14’S 169° 51’W. Otherwise this species has not been reported since, so it is difficult to make any confident statements about the distribution of this species. Chavtur and Angel (in press) in their revision are retaining this species in the genus Metaconchoecia.
