This species belongs to a genus that is exclusively bathypelagic or abyssopelagic. Females of several of the species of the genus still await adequate description and are difficult to distinguish even for the specialist. This species is only known reliably from its type locality, an Eltanin station at 47°S 162°E. However, specimens taken at abyssopelagic depths in the North Atlantic closely resemble the description of the species and have been tentatively ascribed to it. If this is confirmed, this is another example of very deep living species apparently having near ubiquitous distributional ranges and so may be indicators the spread of deep waters.
