Muller included this species in his ‘mollis group’, which Poulsen (1973) reclassified as his new genus It is readily distinguished from other Mollicia species by its characteristic pattern of sculpturing. The map shows that all but three records are from the eastern Atlantic, where it ranges from 50°N to 40°S, and its bathymetric range is deep bathypelagic to abyssopelagic 1500-4000m. It was recently taken at several stations in the Western Atlantic in samples collected >2000m, and so its absence from many areas may be the result of poor coverage of deep sampling.
