This species has only been collected on a single cruise when the sampling was specifically targeted at near seabed communities in the slope environment bordering the Porcupine Sea Bight off the Western Approaches to the southwest of Britain. All the specimens came from within 10-90m of the seabed at depths of 935-1650m. Near the sea bed environments over continental slopes have rarely been sampled, so not only may this species may be far more widespread than presently known, but also there may be many other novel species waiting to be found in such environments. Described as a Conchoecia species, we tentatively include it here in the genus Porroecia.
