This species was originally described from the Caribbean as a Conchoecia species; here it is tentatively classified as a ProceroeciaAll subsequent records have come from the North Atlantic, so it may be an Atlantic endemic with a zoogeographical distribution that is centred in the Caribbean. It has seldom been taken in abundance, and so it may have been overlooked in surveys in which the samples have been fractioned. The bathymetric profiles show that it occurs at depths of 300-800m and is a non-migrant.
