151 Records
This is one of the species described by Gooday (1981) when he revised what he termed the ‘skogsbergi complex’, i.e. those species that fell within the concept of the ‘long form’ of C. rotundata (Müller, 1906). Iles (1953) had given the name Conchoecia skogsbergi to Müller’s long form using Skogsberg’s (1920) description of Southern Ocean material as the type description. But when examining Atlantic material, Gooday (1981) described six new species amongst a large number of specimens that were similar to skogsbergi. Since then few researchers have published identifications of this species, so that most records are for Discovery material although Gooday identified specimens in Dana material from the southern central Pacific. Hence its known range 60°N to 0°S in the Atlantic is unlikely to be representative. The bathymetric profiles show that it is a mesopelagic species occurring at depths of 300-600m but is most abundant at depths of 400-500m. There is no evidence of it undertaking diel vertical migrations.
