The original description was of a specimen caught in midwater at a depth of 1800-3600m. The four subsequent records have all come from epibenthic sled samplers at much shallower depths ranging from 270-1520m. This is one of the five seven-spined Bathyconchoecia species that have been described; it is differentiated from the other species by having crescent shaped fringes of fine hairs between the punctae that cover the surface of the carapace. It seems likely that eventually all these seven-spined species will be classified in a separate genus.
